Klapa Patria

Many forms of traditional music in modern Croatia have become popular and are recognisable emblems of different regions.
None of these forms have had such a drastic transformation as did the "Klapa" singing.  It is a phenomenon which is relatively old and recognised by musicologists as early as the mid-nineteenth century.
The Klapa singing as we know it today started in its present form in the mid-nineteenth century, when small Mediterranean towns and villages along the Dalmatian coast and islands began emerging with their cultural identity, in part through their musical expression.
In 1960, klapa singing was acknowledged as a new genre through the organisation for the first festival of this kind held in Omis.
